Roots Community recently traveled to Spokane to take part in Invent Washington. Invent Washington is an organization that gives students the opportunity to become an inventor and entrepreneur while allowing creativity to guide each child. All students had to think of a problem in someone’s life and then come up with a solution. It was exciting to watch the students problem solve and then build prototypes of their actual inventions . They also had to create a display board showing their entire process all while journaling and keeping a log of their progress. Invent Washington allowed each student to be an inventor, a problem solver and a writer! 7 out of our 15 students who entered placed either first, second or third in their respective categories.CONGRATULATIONS to everyone on your planning, hardwork, and innovativeness!! A huge thanks to Sherry Palmiter of “Just Make Stuff” in Chelan for all of her time, creativity, knowledge and energy in making this event possible for our students!

Lake Chelan Multisport Foundation is a nonprofit organization in the Chelan Valley that hosts a weekend of triathlons and running events each summer. All the profits from the weekend are donated to local youth programs and Roots Community School was one recipient of grant money from the Multisport Foundation. Roots will use this grant money to purchase equipment for a physical education program, promote health/wellness in our student body and promote a lifelong love of sport/activity. As a grant recipient, Roots was invited to volunteer at the ChelanMan. Volunteer Coordinator Tara had the idea to place the Roots kids and parents at the finish line on Saturday to award medallions to race finishers. It was an early morning, but the kids had a great time, and from the look on many athletes faces, they enjoyed the smiling kids at the finish line as well.
